Sevice Pack 2?

I'm getting the impression that Vista Service Pack 2 is out and ready.
Or am I wrong? Windows Update hasn't notified me yet that it is available
update.

Not yet released, still bug ridden. Well, that's not entirely
accurate: it will still be bug ridden when released, but the bugs will
be on the approved list :)

Thanks. I saw a post here that said sp2 was installed on their computer.

Also, if I might ask another question.
How do I obtain and install Micorsoft Update? Currently I'm using Windows
Update.

SP2 RTM will be released before too long and it will eventually come down
the Windows Update tube. It will also be available as a standalone
installation.

Vista essentially uses Microsoft Update now. It just isn't called that in
respect of Vista..

We had a bunch of Redmonsofties in town for a meeting and I asked them why
the two names circulate for the same component and they just shrugged and
smiled goofy smiles.

Maybe it's an area of hot contention, but MSFT makes Windows, so...

Y' miss him?

How can anyone miss that manic. He's like clockwork coming to this NG
with his negative agenda. He is Alias's pet. The sad part about him is
MS is really the only way he can make a living and put food on the table.

He is such a hypocrite.

Did you get any sleep or were you out here most of the time? I hear the
older you get, the less you sleep.

For XP, the two were different. Windows Update covered Windows only and
Microsoft Update covered Windows and MS Office..

From Vista on, it is just Windows Update..

Mike--

Thanks for reminding me. I spent a lot of time on XP, but so many things
have happened since, I'm fuzzy and sometimes, I'm fuzzy when I have to
figure out a Vista problem in areas where I'm not sure that Win 7 could be a
little bit different and I don't have a Vista box where I can run through
the steps I want to give.

The meeting I am talking about happened in the spring before Vista (about
April of 2006), was released; it was an OEM System Builders meeting. and I
went to see what they would say about Vista. I had seen the terms flying
around, and couldn't distinguish them at the time. I didn't realize Office
at the time of XP made the difference in the two update platforms.

Why worry about Vista SP2 when you can get a considerably better kernel, and
exponentially less memory leak with Windows 7 RC1 in a couple weeks unless
they postpone the public release? It's a lot more formidiable OS than Vista
SP2 and you can use it free for a year. You can help MSFT by letting them
know how an upgrade or clean install is working.

I just finished off two days of not being able to use the sound system on my
machine (running Vista Ultimate with SP1) after installing a copy of SP2
that was erroneously released on Windows update for about 30 minutes before
it was pulled. In that timeframe I tried to remove SP2 -- uninstall -- and
try to run a System Restore from before the SP2 installation. No luck. As a
member of MSDN I was entitled to some in person tech support which I took
advantage of. Through Easy Assist they took over my machine remotely and
tried all sorts of things. I tried an In Place Reinstall. No luck. I tried
replacing the sound system with a sound system I picked up at Best Buy. It
was running the Creative chipset which is apparently not compatible with
Vista. It ate my hard disk a few times. Thank goodness for Norton ghost. For
some reason Microsoft deleted mine System Restore Points.

Over the weekend I pulled the soundcard in preparation for buying a realtek
soundcard. I rebooted and magically my sound system startup working. It's
fortunate for me because my Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition
system requires a valid sound system
to work. This message, for example, is through the Dragon NaturallySpeaking
sound system.

Please everybody: make sure you have a full image backup of your system
before installing SP2!

I was scared feces less I have to start over from scratch!
