Setupdd.sys Error code 4 on install

Steve

I have had a few problems with XP and was advised to buy a
new hard drive. I am trying to re-install XP but keep
getting:

File setupdd.sys could not be loaded.
The error code is 4.
Setup cannot continue press any key to exit.

It is using a recovery CD from the people who I bought my
PC from, what is going wrong?

Contact the manufacturer of your computer and find out if your
Recovery CD will work with a different brand of hard drive. If
not, you'll need to either purchase the same make and model hard
drive as the original, or you'll need to purchase a conventional
"full version" of Windows XP.

Nicholas,

thanks for your fast reply, it wasn't the hard drive but
the memory! XP must write some files to memory and then
call them back, which it couldn't do, tried a new stick of
memory and it is fine. Didn't get any bios problems or
anything, but memory must have been on the way out.

Seems to be working on the old hard drive now!

Steve.
