SETUP XP HANGS ....... !!!!

I boot CD, then format the drive, it copies the files onto
the harddisk, and then restart
then after loading the first
WINDOWS XP (the logo)
the next screen i get is:

just a dot?
and it hangs there
what's the matter?

What kind of processor?
How much and what kind of RAM?
