setup stops at "finalizing installation."

When upgrading from 98 second edition to xp pro. at
the "finalizing installation" I get an fatal error window
with the message that if it errors againt after re-start
select cancel setup and correct problem, but no options
to cancel or anything else comes up, the system just
keeps looping through "installing windows" to "final
installation" and back.

My problem is the same. There's no way to go back, you can't shut down, you're just stuck in the loop. Did you find out what the problem was?
