XP re-install

I foolishly tried to re-install XP Home without backing up the data. Setup
loops at the 'Installing Windows' stage and keeps rebooting and repeating the
stage. I cannot stop Setup or return to Windows. Is there anything I can do?

Well youre trying to reinstall thru windows explorer, that doesnt work....To
re-
install xp,one must boot to xp cd,select install xp,option 1. "Repair this
copy"
option 2. "New Copy" With #2.Option,delete the partition (xp),create
one,then
xp formats & reinstalls auto As for backup, actually the best backup is to
run
the file-transfer-wizard from xp cd,set as old pc,select
settings,files,folders,etc
to save, save in new folder you created, once its thru, move folder to cd....

Thanks Andrew, I did try last night to boot from the XP CD, but the repair
option needs an administrator password which I have forgotton. Now I know the
correct procedure I will try again over the weekend.

Thanks for the reply. I got totally lost and finally the machine came up with
a red STOP message say NLQR NOT EQUAL something or other, the PC now
continuously reboots itself. The original problem (after installing Explorer
7, was that I could not download photos to the Kodak gallery due to incorrect
file size, which my reinstall may not have cured, so I took the easy optiion
and have ordered a new PC. I have put the old hard disk into a loaned PC, so
I can save some files!
