"Setup is being restarted.........."

That's the message screen that comes up just before it goes to a solid light
blue screen and cursor after I've upgraded from 2000 Pro to XP Pro. I haven't
got up from this desk, except to sleep, since two nights ago trying to do
this "simple upgrade". I should have known better.
XP Pro upgrade will boot thru screen that says "WINDOWSxp" and then goes
black, that then I get a light blue screen that says "Setup is being
restarted........." then goes to solid light blue with operating cursor. Have
waited as long as nine hours for it to go into the desktop and tried
everything I can think of including booting from CDs both 2000 and XP. I
would be incredibly greatful to anyone who could help me.

Thanks for your help, but how do I restore my nineteen years of accumulated
and critical data from a 2000 Pro backup on a second drive to a clean install
on the now wiped out C drive? If I knew for sure if that could be done I
think your idea would be a good one.
