Setup failed to install the following products: Business Contact M

I had a similar problem, here is my solution

I had identified that this was a security issue according the following
event log error:

Product: Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 -- Error 1913.Could not
update the INI file C:\Windows\system32\mapisvc.inf. Verify that the file
exists and that you can access it.

After checking the security of the file mapisvc.inf, I noticed that the ONLY
WRITE permission were of the 'TrustedInstaller' group, a group that does not
exist in the standard local groups of the vista system

I then TOOK OWNERSHIP of this file with my local admin acct. and added the
MODIFY security setting. Of course this has probally altered my security
footprint of my system, but it did allow me to install BCM 2K7. I am not sure
what long term impact this may present once this file has been altered. I
guess you can always reture the settings back to read/execute for this file.

I do have an error every time I open an office 2K7 app. The error dialog
states

Dialog box heading: BCM Office Admin
Error message: Office application version does not match

Hope this helps

Thank you for your suggestions, but I will repeat the problem... this is on
Vista - therefore you cannot rename, delete, or otherwise modify any files in
the System32 directory because Vista does not allow you to do it. You cannot
modify the permissions on any of these files either because of the changes
that Vista has. I have even tried uninstalling Office 2003, and successfully
installed the Office 2007 trial, but can still not get the BCM to install.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Jeff

I am having this exact same problem, however my log file does show that the
file mapisvc.inf cannot be accessed because of its permissions and this is
where it is erroring out. This is on Vista, so I have no control over the
permissions aspect. Any suggestions?

Any more hints on how to install BCM? If you'd like, I can be reached at
408-426-8089 and we can setup a session for me to show what's hapening.
I'm also running Visual Studio 2005.

:

The MSSMLBIZ server is running and I'm installing this on Windows XP Pro with
an
Inter 6060 CPU with 1BG of memory and over 200GB spare on the hard drive.
Right after it installs the Primary Interop Assemblies, it starts to install
BCM and then just aborts, with the Installation Failure message.

I can open the SQL server with SQL Server Configuration Manager as well as
with
SQL Server Management Studio Express, so I'd assume that the server is running
fine. I've also tried to restart the server numerous time during the
installation, including installing the software with SQL running and it not
running. The install
of BCM still aborts even before it starts.

:

Hi Thatch
I'm also one of the member of the BCM team. Your latest link to log just has
"Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies" information. it still
doesnt have BCM Setup logs.
Could you make sure that MSSMLBIZ service for SQL Server is running while
installing BCM? Is this on Windows XP or Vista?

I just did it and I posted it to the site. Here's the link:
http://www.salesbyweb.com/bcminstall.log

When I install I only choose the BCM install and not the MS Accounting.
I have tried it both ways with the same results. The BCM install just states
that it failed and exits.

I have a couple of packages installed, namely Visual Studio 2005 and ACT!
2007 (which are both working fine with the SQL Express)

This is a bit odd. The zip shows vaild installs for everything but BCM. In
fact I don't see a log for bcm. Could you run the install one more time, but
doing from a command line passing the following:

setup.exe /lv* c:\bcminstall.log

That should produce a full set of log files. Sorry for all the requests,
but hopefully we will get to the bottom of it.

Here's a link to all the MBS* log files.

I've installed the software numerous times trying to get the BCM running,
so there are quite a few log files.

Thanx for looking into this for me.

Could you post all the MBSsetuptmp*.log files? The one you linked in for
the office primary interop's, and from the look of it they did install
correctly.

Jerry,

Thanx for the reply. I did check the log, and there are no errors that I
could see.
I tried patching the text to this conversation but the text is too long.
Here's a link to the log file:

I looked throgh it and there are no errors that I see. Can you tell me what

Thanx in advance.

Hi Thatch,

Just to make sure, you are attempting to install bcm 2007 on office 2007?
If you are installing on a box with office 2007, there should be a setup log
file in your %temp% folder named MBSsetup*.log. The log file with a product
name of "mssmlbix.msi" is the bcm install log.

This support article has some good information on how to read those install
logs.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826511

The bcm install logs are "windows installer log file"

Hope that helps.

Furthermore, I've contacted Microsoft on ALL the known channels only to be
told that they don't have a clue why BCM is not installing.

The sad part is that I write applications that work on BCM and I can't even
install BCM 2007! Is the only way to get this piece of software running must
be by Installing everything from fresh, including the O/S? From the looks of
it, if you have anything installed on your machine other than the O/S, the
installation just aborts and calls it quits!

I've uninstalled Office 2003 and every single piece of office. I've also
uninstalled the .net framework and re-installed it. In addition, I've also
uninstalled the SQL server and let the BCM install it but I still get the
same error!

DOESN'T ANYONE FROM MICROSOFT READ THESE FORUMS?

Does the 2007 BCM installation work?

:

When installing disk 2 of the setup, I get the message:
"Setup failed to install the following products
Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007"

No error messages are displayed and it just asks me to click on Finish and
the
installation then aborts. I used to have Outlook 2003 with BCM and I'm now
trying to evaluate this new version of BCM for Outlook 2007.- Hide quoted text -

Try renaming mapisvc.inf to mapisvc.inf.old, and then try installing
again. That's worked for others who have run into the same problem.

Note that Outlook may have placed more than one mapisvc.inf on your
hard disk. Rename them all.

I was able to solve the problem I identified in my prior post regarding the
Office Application version error. Here is the solution from MS.
