I need to save my settings and some files before formatting and performing a
clean install. Is there a right way of doing this in Win 2000 Pro?
Asd far as I can se, No. You either have to do it manually or get an
third-part (if it exists) tool to do it.
If you for example backup the whole registry to another partition/disc than
c: (asuming your windows is installed there)
first. Then you install an clean copy of windows back on C:, I beleive there
will be a lot of errors after importing
the old registry-settings.
So, the thing you can do is:
If you oppen regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
you can backup the keys that's contains settings to different programs. and
restore them aftetr reinstall windows.
Ini-files, as far i know, usually is being saved in the windows/winnt folder
or in the same folder as the program itself is installed in.
Hope this helps.
