Setting update to use a proxy

When I try to do an update I get the 0x8024401b error. This is on a Toshiba
laptop xp svp 2 not on a corperate network. I do have a proxy based internet
filter, that I have to log into when I go on the internet. The proxy setting
are in Internet Options in the control panel. I can get to Windows Update to
get updates but I do have to put in my filter user name and password. I do
not get that opportunity when I use the update in Defender

How does AutoUpdate work in this situation?

I do not know how AutoUpdate works in Defender, my virus program which is
AntiVir is set to just use the existing internet connection and works fine
without me putting in a password, maybe my internet filter is not the problem.

As an additional note, I intalled Defender on another computer on my home
networks that does not have the same filtering program and the updates work
fine

I meant AutoUpdate as in the Windows feature that brings in security
patches, etc, without your needing to explicitly go and visit Windows
Update.

If that works, Windows Defender signature updates should work.
