Setting up home network using direcway dw4000 series modem

hi,
I'm using a direcway satellite system (dw4000) for internet on my desktop
pc and i've been trying to set up a home network to connect my wifes laptop
(she's still using dial up or disconnects my pc and plugs her laptop in) to
no avail. The dw4000 plugs into a USB port on my pc. i have tried everything
in Xp homes trouble shooter to share the internet connection between the 2
pc's but nothing seems to work. Is there a simple step by step guide i could
use to share this connection. Am at my wits end and ready to give up the
whole idea. I have set up networks for a not for profit org. in the past
without problem, so it is really confusing me why i don't seem to be able to
make this happen. Both pc's are running XP Home have been trying to use a
linksys router to connect them, all hardware is functional and cables are
brand new.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

With the Internet service working on the desktop computer, it's just a matter of
running the Network Setup Wizard, and selecting "This computer connects directly
to the Internet. The other computers on my network connect to the Internet
through this computer.". Identify, if asked, the Ethernet connection to the
router, as the connection thru which you will share the service.

Connect your computer, and your wife's computer, as peers to the LAN on the
Linksys. Set the LAN address on the Linksys to 192.168.0.254. Disable the DHCP
server on the Linksys. Set your wife's computer to use DHCP, which she will get
from your computer.

Thanks Chuck,

It was the configuring of the router that was screwing me up + having to
disable ICS while setting it up. Your guidance on this matter was extremely
useful & probably saved me from going prematurely grey, Many Thanks, Rob.
