setting up an OKI Microline 512 printer under Windows2000

HELP.....

I have Windows 2000 Pro that we need to connected an OKI Microline 512
dot matrix printer to. Unfortunately when I setup the printer (printing
directly to LPT1:) windows says that there is a problem. If I shell out
to dos I get the same error reported in windows.

When I re-boot the PC it thinks the printer is a new piece of hardware
and tried to install it as such, which it fails to do since there are no
such drivers for it.

The PC works fine if I connect a laser printer to it, and the dot matrix
printer works fine if I connect it to a Windows 98 PC.

How can I resolve this problem?

Regards

Keith

change the system BIOS setting of the parallel port. Not sure what Okidata
recommends for the device. Normally the BIOS from the computer vendor is
set to EPP or ECP. Look for AT, PS2, or BiDi and see if the printer likes
this setting better.

You get to the system BIOS just after the machine starts. If XP starts
loading you have gone too far. Wait for the os to load then restart.
