Setting default printer

I am new to Vista and have an Acer Aspire desktop with Vista. I have
installed my Canon iP4200 without incident but for some reason I cannot set
it to the default printer. When I click on it and try to set it nothing
happens. Most of the programs seem to recognize the printer but some like
Adobe Acrobat do not and some of the programs in Vista itself do not. I get
a error message telling me I need to install a printer before I can print
from these programs. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the
software. I have the newest Vista compatible drivers from Canon. any
suggestions? Thank you.

You may have Vista drivers for the printer, but the other software that may
have been bundled with the printer may not work under Vista. Some Adobe
applications have been problematic for Vista. I have an Epson Photo
Perfection 1650 scanner and while Epson has a Vista driver for it, the other
software that came with the scanner, like Epson Smart Panel, does not work
under Windows Vista.

If you just install the Vista driver, does Windows then allow you to set the
printer as the default?
