Set Up partitions with RIS

Joe

Hi all.

Need help with this:

I set up a RIS server and i've attached a couple of HP
DL380 Server to LAN to get Os from server. The issue i'm
trying to skip or avoid is that by design (i know it) RIS
makes a full format of the entire drive and i would like
to install Windows on a small partition, not the whole
drive. Let say ... Hard Drive is 72 GB of size; i would
like to use just 10 or 20 GB of it.

Is there a way to set that? any kind of RIS hacking or
undocumented process?

Any help will be very appreciated, Thanks in advanced,

Joe,

The Setup and Deployment newsgroup might be a good place to post this
question as well as in here. Oli and Scott probably already know this
answer.

It has been awhile since I have used RIS. If this is possible, I would
think that the correct line would be in the 'answer file'. AutoPartition=1
is part one to this process. The default command simply tells RIS to
install Windows to the first partition that 1) has the space and 2) does not
already have an installation of Windows. And, oh by the way, it decimates
the hard drive and creates a nice big single partition. So, you would need
to set that to '= no'. ( NOTE: I do not remember if it would have to be a
'= 0' or a '= no'.... ). However, this is going to cause the installation
to stop. So, it is not really all that unattended anymore, is it?

And part two would be UseWholeDisk = Yes. You would also have to modify the
UseWholeDisk = Yes ( or is it =1, I can not remember right now ). This
would need to be set to UseWholeDisk = No ( or, = 0 ). But, again, this is
going to cause a problem with the 'unattended' part of the unattended
installation ( well, you know what I mean ).

HTH,

Cary
