Set Send and Receive to run in background

When outlook (2007) executes a send and receive automaically, at the time
intinterval set in options, my PC navigates away from other programs I might
be using and hence and keybord entries are not entered. E.G. If I am typing
a sentence in word when a send/receive occurs then I find several of the
letters or words typed are missing. How can I set the send and receive to
operate in the background with out navigating away from other programmes?
Any help would be appreciated to get over this annoying problem.

It should already occur fully in the background. In case it doesn't, you
probably have an add-in installed which somehow shifts the focus to Outlook.

Does it work correctly in Outlook Safe Mode?
Start-> Run; outlook.exe /safe

Do you have a virus scanner installed which integrates itself with Outlook?
Uninstall this integration part of your virus scanner and try again; you'd
still be sufficiently protected by your on-access scanner part of the virus
scanner. For more details see;

If this does not solve it, try disabling your other add-ins;
