Set dialog box option default

I would like to change the way the MapSource (a Garmin mapping program)
dialog box opens in default.

eg. File>Open>View menu>Details is my preferred default.

In Garmin's reply they state:

'The Open File dialog that we use is a Windows operating system resource,
and we aren't able to configure this option in the dialog'.

How can I setup Windows XP Pro to open a dialog box in my preferred
configuration?

No way. This is hardcoded in. The dialog box will open in List view or
Thumbnail view depending on what folder is selected.
 
Make your preferred configuration the default in Windows. See "Folder
Options" in Help and Support.
