How do I remove thumbnails view as the default in dialog boxes?

When I open certain dialog boxes, I receive the thumbnails view by default. I
can't change this behavior.
For example, if I do a Save As in Textpad, the dialog box always displays a
thumbnails view of my local folder directory. The same happens with certain
dialog boxes in IE, too.
I've set these registry keys as follows, but that hasn't changed the
behavior in dialog boxes:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ ClassicViewState=dword:00000001
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ "DisableThumbnailCache"=dword:00000001

Please tell me there is a way to ensure that all dialog boxes never default
to thumbnails.

It depends on what template is used for that folder. Right-click on the
folder name in Windows Explorer, select Properties and then click on the
Customize Tab. See what template is used. If the template is for Pictures,
you will get thumbnails. You can change the template-type using the
drop-down list and select something else, e.g., Documents.
