I saw a list of services somewhere that's running on XP
that could be disabled without causing any problems, I
would appreciate any help in finding this information.

TIA

Good Luck,if you spend the time to locate, read, figure
out the topics, etc.you might be lucky to end 1or2,the
subject been around.Try investigating other areas for
performance gains.

The basic ones are :
Plug and Play
System Restore Service
RPC
on disabling the rest you may not see the graphics as on
other XP systems(it comes up as classic)

you also can't disable networking ones if you wish to have internet access.

The PRC service should not be disabled for any reason, you'll break a lot of
other services in windows itself if the rpc service is disabled. But you can
minimize it's access to the internet, and the effects on your computer but right
clicking the rpc service>properties>recovery. Change all the failure options to
restart the service and ok your way out. That will prevent it from restarting
your machine if you get hit with the blaster virus. As for preventing rpc from
opening port 135, change the task scheduler service to manual and ok your way
out. Reboot for the changes to take effect and port 135 should be closed.
