services.msc: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) disabled

Heino

Hello,

When in W2K Pro services.msc and trying to start certain
services I get the following error message:

error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to
start.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with me (stupidly) disabling
RPC. So now if I right-click on RPC and select Properties
I don't get the properties pop-up window to enable the
service again. I think by disabling RPC I have also
disabled the ability to enable it again (makes sense?).

However, if I try to close down the services.msc window I
get a MMC pop-up window asking me to close all property
pages before closing Services.

I'm stuck.

Note: One would think that labelling errors like 1068,
1067 etc. was done so one could look up that error in some
sort of list or help file or whatever - but there's no
reference to that error in all of W2K nor on the MSFT
support site whatsoever!

Fix it using the registry.
