services.msc not working well

"Auto update" as well as several other "services" will not START. I am
missing 23 critical and important updates and can't install any security, in
part, because of this. Everytime I enable a service and click start, it
jumps back to disabled. I am in deep trouble. Can anyone help me please?

1st open "Event-viewer" & see what problems the OS is haveing,click on
the error/warnings listed,once one is opened,click on the URL enclosed,this
opens XP KB Help & Support,usually with a fix..Either way,another option,
install xp cd,exit the info page,go to run,type:cmd In cmd type:Sfc /Scannow
Once its thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F Agree to restart,type:EXIT Remove xp cd,
restart pc.
