automatic updates disabled

A few weeks ago I got attacked with antivirus2009. I got rid of it (thanks to
this site) and installed Kasperskys security. Internet, etc finally got back
to working correctly. I cannot enable Auto Udates still. I have tried
everything I could find on Microsoft site. Using services.msc, it will not
enable - error 1058 'cannot be started - disabled or no enabling devices
assosiated'. Cannot find the files in Registryedit. Maybe I deleted something
important to the is service? (I got rid of a lot of stuff while trying to fix
my other problem)
Can anyone help? I am running Windows XP Home service pack 3

How did you get "rid of it"? By running STUPIDAntiSpyware and/or MBAM?

I think you've got more work to do:

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
