Services.exe terminates with status code -1

Hello, I have three XP computers that were working fine until I
mapped a network drive on all three of them. The network drive exists
on a server and each computer has their own account to access it.
Since then, all three of these computers experience the shutdown
error: "Initiated by NT Authority\SYSTEM 'C:\\WINDOWS
\System32\services.exe' Terminated unexpectedly with status code -1"
then the 60 second countdown and reboot.

I tried removing the mapped network drive and now still get the
error. Every time with status code -1. The problem seems completely
intermittent, but happens especially when the computers come back from
suspend overnight. Any ideas on what the problem is or where to look
would be greatly appreciated.

you are infected by a trojan: Win32.Trojan.KillAV may be, do you have
Anti-virus up2date, please disconnect all machines and scan thoroughly and if
infections found disinfect the server and patch the systems with the latest
security.

I am using McAfee virus scan that is updated. Scanned the systems
with nothing found. Also made sure all windows updates have been
installed. Both these operations went without problem. Any other
ideas?

If you are infected, one of the first things it does is to disable all
the big names in a/v software.

Try one of these Virus Removal Tools:

Avast! One tool for any current virus
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html

Symantec Virus Removal Tools

F-Secure Virus Removal Tools

Kaspersky Virus Removal Tools

Or, try one of these free online virus scans:

This one has a choice of a Quick or a Complete check

Symantec

then click the Security check link.

Adding to Joe advice, turn the Automatic Updates OFF and BITS services in
the services control panel OFF, run the thorough scan and then Disk Clean Up
and Reboot your machine, does this help?.
