NT Authority\sstem & staus code -1

We get this message every few hours:

Initiated by NT Authority\system

The system process C:\Windows\system32\services.exe
terminated with status code -1


Then once you touch the keyboard or hit the mouse the computer gives us 60 seconds and says "you will lose all unsaved work" and after that shuts down and it can't (as far as I know) be stopped. Any idea what NT Authority\system is exactly and what the problem here could be?
