services.exe and slow performance

Hey, everytime I either shut down or restart my comp my total cpu mem is set
to 100% (making everything running super slow). When I pull up task mgr it
says services.exe is taking up anywhere from 85% to 99% of my memory...i just
put some new ram (512mb) into the comp and still the same problem. I can't
just close the process b/c it's a system process. any suggestions on
improving my awful performance? thanks

What type of maintenance and antivirus/antispyware scans have you done?

As Shenan suggested you need to check for spyware.

Task Manager is useful but you could look at another freeware utility
Process Explorer, which provides similar information but adds that
little bit extra towards seeing what the running processes represent.

To ascertain which service is causing the problem select the
image name producing the high CPU usage, right click,
select Properties, Services. Note there are the full names and some
explanation of what each service does.

You will find further information on Services here:

To trace the particular Service involved you need to turn off each
service in turn and then restore it noting what effect it has on CPU
usage. However, you need to take care and watch what other Services are
dependent on that service. When you click on the Dependencies tab allow
it a little time to display the information.

I use SpySweeper and Ad-aware, also have spybot search and destroy(not used
often) and nothing's caught the supposed trojan...
