Services disabled on their own

In May, I was having problems with Windows XP Professional services
disabling. It would be working fine and then the next time I turned it on, I
didn't have any sound, no printer, etc. I was using Norton Internet Security
at that time and it was happening very often. I would have to go in and
manually re-enable everything each time this happened. Something caught my
attention one day, I don't remember what, but I noticed that with Norton
Internet Security disabled, it didn't happen. I uninstalled Norton and it was
almost time for a new subscription so I purchased ZoneAlarm Internet
Security. I haven't used any Norton products since then except Norton
Systemworks 2004 Professional but not the virus software. I haven't had any
trouble with my services disabling since then. Okay, just about three days
ago, I installed Norton GoBack and guess what. Since that installation, my
services have already completely disabled three times just like when I was
running Norton Intenet Security. I have gone to their support site and can't
find anything about it. I have updated as far as I can and nothing has
helped. The only thing I knew to do was uninstall Norton GoBack. I hate
Windows System Restore! It's nothing but a pain either! If I can't use Norton
Goback, is there another product out there that does the same thing that you
would recommend? I uninstalled Norton GoBack and everything was fine for
maybe 24 hours. But, then today, out of the blue, the same thing happened.
Most of my services have been disabled. So, apparently Norton wasn't the
cause but was making it worse. This seems mighty strange to me. If anyone has
any ideas, I sure appreciate them! Thanks! Jones

Not the same software, but after I installed WinXP SP2, half of my automatic
services were disabled (including printing). I'd enable, reboot and they
were disabled. After a lot of troubleshooting (reinstalling fresh 3 times) I
finally figured out that my old Creative Sound Blaster utility was the
reason. Don't really know why, but everything was great until I would
install that utility. I got everything re-installed minus SB and everything
has been working fine.
So you could have some app that is conflicting with the Norton products.
Unforturnately, I don't have a real good method of figuring out which one
could be doing that. Hope this helps a little.
