Is there a way to get the service tag number in windows xp
software? I know that it is on the back of the machine,
but was wondering if there was a folder on the machine
that you could find it in.........thanks

Are you referring to a Dell computer? Dell uses the term "service tag" as a
way to identify individual Dell computers. It's not a Windows XP thing,
however, Dell stores the service tag on your computer. Go to Start | Control
Panel | System and the General tab will open. You'll find your service tag
there. You can also retrieve it from the Dell folder in your Start | All
Programs menu.

On the other hand, if you don't have a Dell computer, forget what I just
wrote.

I'd go to their website click on support for for home users and use their
service tag application.
