Service Packs query

Have successfully reinstalled WinXP Home Edition.
Windows update gives me choices of many updates to install, including SP1
and Sp2.
Should these be installed, even if I intend to install SP3?
Thanks for any helpful info.

What service pack level is XP at currently? You can check this either through
the Control Panel -> System Properties applet or Start -> Run -> winver. In
order to install SP3 you need to have one of the earlier service packs
installed.

Bottom line is if your installation CD did not include any service packs, you'll
have to install SP2 before installing SP3. If the CD came with SP1, you only
need to install SP3.

Good luck

Then install SP1 OR better, SP2, and then SP3. Not sure why that is,
but it seems to be the concensus and I've seen it in MS articles too.
If you let update do the installs, they are smaller files but then you
don't have the file to keep for safe keeping. Download those at that
catalog area.

SP1 then SP3 will be fine if you want to end up at SP3.
You can skip SP2.

You can skip SP2.

Or you can play it a bit more safe and conservatively, and just install SP1
and SP2. Or maybe SP2 can be installed directly without SP1 - don't know.

Have installed SP2 and was then prompted to install SP3.
Am now up-to-date with SP's.
Thank you to all, for your helpful responses.
Have a good day.
