service pack2 and networking

i have desktop hooked up to dsl modem which is hooked up to router.. also
have a laptop with a wireless card.. both worked great until i installed the
service pack 2..desktop will connect to internet, but laptop will not.. i
have tried including disabling firewalls.. any suggestions.. thanks..

From your description, you have that stuff hooked up kinda backward.
You should have the desktop and the laptop hooked up to the router, and the
router hooked up to the DSL modem. That way, each PC can access the 'net
independent of the other; and, hardware routing is more robust than
software routing. Both PCs should be DHCP clients, and the router should
have DHCP serving enabled.
