Can connect to network

I have a desktop with xphome and a laptop xphome linksys wireless router and
dsl
connected at the router. Both computers connect to internet but cant get a
network setup. Tell me mshome not available plus my laptop doesnt show in its
network places If I hook up a cat cable from the router to the laptop I see
the laptop on the desktop but cant connect. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

have you enable the sharing? or post the result of net share command.
