Service Pack 2

Hi, I have installed Service Pack 2 recently. I had to do a System Restore to
get it back after I encountered problems. After install it takes AGES to load
my desktop taskbar etc. After that the computer is very, very slow. I have no
Idea what the problem is. A message comes up (something about Norton
AntiVirus). I have now updated it with the WMI master patch (I don't know if
that will help).

I have Win XP Home,an AMD Athlon 2400+, 512mb memory and a 120gb hard disk
with around 20-30gb taken.

Can anybody help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you first go to Microsoft and add all the updates and go to their
manufacturer's page and add all the driver updates before you downloaded SP2?
If not, you need to reinstall SP1 or system recovery back to SP1 and do the
updates first, before you install SP2. That's why it is loading slow and
doesn't seem to work properly. The url for manufacturer's page is as follows:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/oemlinks.mspx

There is a post SP2 update already.

Problems with SP2 can often be traced to installing it on a system that is
rife with spyware and other parasites. In my experience it is important to
do a decent disk cleanup and maintenance before installing SP2 and to use
the full download of SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en
rather than the Windows Update Site.

Check Jupiter Jones site here for good tips on installing SP2

After installing SP2 you should run defrag.
