Hi,

I recently installed the new Service Pack 2 from
Microsoft. I have been experiencing no problems from the
service pack other than when I shut down my computer. It
takes from 2 to 5 minutes for the shut
down, restart, standby screen to come on and once I click
one of the options it takes another 2 to 5 minutes to
shut down. This problem only started happening after I
installed the service pack.

Thanks,
Becky

At "Shutdown" Xp must close all open Applications & prompt to
save any data files, stop services and write out your profile's data
to the Registry hive for Hkey_Current_User. Any of these things
can hang or stall and cause an excessive shutdown time. The way
to run it down is use the System & Application Event viewer. All
or most system level operations log themselves in these two files.
There are three levels of activities monitored
Informational - Just that something occurred
Warnings - Operations that occurred with issues
Errors - Operations that didn't complete successfully.
Use the direct Microsoft Console Plug-in to view the content. Click
Start, Run (Type) Eventvwr.Msc
The window will be somewhat small, so maximize it to be able to
see things more easily. It's a split pane view. In the Left pane check
Event Viewer to expand the log categories. Then click the + beside
System and scan the list in the Right pane. Locate any Red icons &
double click each instance to read the description and Event ID #.
Duplicate this for the Application log.
Sometimes the best way to approach this is clear both logs and
then immediately do a fresh reboot. To clear each log Right Click
the Left Pane Application (System) and from the Context menu
left click "Clear all Events", answer no to Save the existing data.
