service pack 2 problem and uninstall

I could not unistall this version according to directions on this site but
just did a system restore to a earlier time, do I also have to uninstall it?

The problem that I ran into while booting with Service pack 2 was that I got
a windows registry Recovery error every time. I did all the steps from
virus/spyware scans to disk cleanup/defrag to install from site but I can't
seem to get it installed correctly. This is the 4th time I've tried? Please
let me know if you have any tips.

performing a system restore to a day prior to the installation of SP2
effectively removes Sp2.
post the exact error message.
