Service Pack 2 Install Issue...

I am unaware of any issues between Windows 2000 Adv Server
and XP Pro SP2. However, I would recommend temporarily
removing W2K (for example disconnecting the W2K hard
drive) if that is possible and a concern.

Secondly, have you tried the Last Known Good config, Safe
Mode, etc on your new XP install? I have also experienced
some hardware compatibility issues which sound similar to
your description.
