Hi there

I use 2 computers. One is connected to the internet, uses
XP (came with the 'puter), and is fully updated. The
other computer runs Win98se, is not/will never be
connected to the web. I recently purchased an XP upgrade
for my non internet Win98se computer. I know that once I
upgrade that computer to XP, I will need the Windows
Service Pack 1a for that non internet computer. I want to
download the entire SP1a on my internet computer to its
dektop, transfer it to a cd, and be ready to install it to
my soon to be upgraded computer.

When I go to the MS website to download SP1a, all I find
is the URL to download SP1a that scans my internet
computer, and prepares the download for THAT computer.
That is NOT the computer that I am planning on installing
SP1a on.

Is there a URL where I can download THE ENTIRE Service
Pack 1a to my internet computers desktop? What am I
missing?

Hoping someone can help.
Tom

Visit: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx
and select "Network Installation", download SP1a to a new folder, then record it to
a CD.

Go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx
and choose the network installation...from a broadband connection. It's 130MB
or so.

For future reference, you could have gotten this information by simply putting
"SP1a" into the search box on the MS home page.

If you recently purchased the XP upgrade kit, you may already have SP1a
installed with it.

Also, you can order a special Security Update CD (free for USA/Canada) which
contains all the security patches/update up to 2003.

On the right of that page, Network is the download of the full 130 MB
SP1a, which you could then burn to CD to take across.

*or* order the consolidated CD of security updates (which includes
SP1a) at
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

It is getting a bit out of date, but if you also got the downloads for
the following on a broadband , especially
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;835732 (Sasser worm patch)
and the
823353 (OE Cumulative)
832894 (IE Cumulative)
828741 (XP Cumulative)

and burned them to CD too, you would be near up to date

*Or* consider waiting a fairly short time now to get the download of
SP2, for the benefit of both machines. I think that might be the best
course - certainly the least effort
