Service Pack 1 doesn't show up as an available update on my wife's HP
laptop. Anyone know why?

Thank you Don and Carey for the very fast response. I have checked the
computer against the list of items in the referenced article and none seems
to apply to this computer. All other updates are complete. I have downloaded
the standalone Service Pack, but am reluctant to install it. I think I might
hold off for a couple of weeks to see if it becomes available through normal
channels. I do have Symantec Anti-virus installed, but not one of the listed
programs, unless Live Update is problematic for the SP.

Again thanks very much for the quick response.

I recently installed the standalone SP1 package on a
friend's new HP notebook and the installation went
perfectly fine. It took about 32 minutes.

Oh wow, the install worked "perfectly" fine. Now tell us if installing
SP1 actually resolves ALL the problems for ALL users. I won't hold my
breath waiting for one of your half-ass excuses why it won't or
shouldn't.
