service pack 1 cannot install

When installing service pack 1 for xp, I get a message
that it is incompatible with the software I'm running.
I've gotten this message several times and cannot install
service pack 1.

Any ideas?

Here is one option for you is the windows XP the original
or is it a copy? if it is the latter you will not be able
to download SPI

What does original vs copy of the XP CD have to do with this problem?
I copied my original XP CD and use the copy when I have to. I have
NEVER had a problem installing SP1.

Also, the OP can DOWNLOAD SP1 thousands of times if he wishes, even if
he doesn't have XP on his computer. Installing it, however, is
another thing.

OP: Unless you present the full text of the error message (word for
word is best) you probably won't get much help here.
