Server?

Hi i currently have a home network 3 machines running xp, i would like to
set up on machine so when any user logs onto the machine, all there settings
favourites, docs etc are saved to this for backups etc.

Can i do this or do i need a server, if so is there any free OS for this?

(they all start microsoft.public.windowxp)
