Server Replacement Same Name

Is it possible to perform a server replacement with a new box with teh same
name as the machine it is replacing? It is necessary to do this because of
all the batch programs that reference the machine by server name. Here is my
thought process:

Build the new server with the same OS (Windows 2000 Std. Server) as the old
server.
Move all relevent data to the new machine.
Rename the old machine and possibly remove from domain (if necessary).
Rename new machine to the old server's name.

Is this possible? If there are any suggestions on how to perform this
replacement in a better manner, I am interested in hearing them.

Thanks,
David

Shouldn't pose a problem. Remove old machine from domain, rename new
machine, join it to domain.
