SERVER ERROR

I am not able to import my website into FrontPage 98
explorer. I can open and edit from my website online and
save it on my computer, but cannot get to explorer to
publish my website. When I try to import an existing
website, or even try to start a new website, from my
getting started page, it gives me an error "the computer
timed out" or "Server error: An error occurred accessing
your FrontPage web files. Authors - if authoring against
a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's
system log for more details."

This does not work on any of our computers, we all get
the same message when trying to import our website or
even start a new front page web. It doesn't work!! I'm
very frustrated and really need to be able to access my
website, can anyone help? I did contact my web hosting
company, godaddy.com, and they tell me that it is
software error, or software settings were changed somehow
and I don't know how to change my settings.

Thank you!!

Since the remote server has the FP extensions, and since you should have Personal Web Server
installed on your local machine, (FP98 is design to be used with one), and you are running Windows
98 / ME / 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro, you need to publish to your local machine using
http://localhost and not use the import function.

This is how I've done it for 2 years and it worked until
May 19th, 2004. However, let's say I just want to open
Front Page 98 and start a whole new website on my
computer. It won't do it. The message I get
says "Computer Timed out" and it gives me that message
immediately! So basically, I can't open Front Page
Explorer at all! Any advice? Thank you!

What updates have you installed?
What version of Windows are you running?

-----Original Message-----
I'm running windows XP and have a cable internet.
I haven't loaded any updates since I just reinstalled
Front Page 98 on my computer 4 days ago hoping to fix the
problem.

What updates have you installed?

If you're asking about updates on Windows, I've loaded
all the updates available except where it's for another
language.

Also, when I try to open Front Page 98, a web server idle
box appears.
Thanks for your help.

FP98 requires a Personal Web Server or IIS to be installed to function correctly, if you are running
Windows XP Home, then no MS Web server is supported. If you are running Windows XP Pro, you need to
remove FP98 and the PWS and then install IIS via Add/Remove Window Components, then install FP98
using Custom Install, not extensions or PWS, etc.
