Server error........Help!

J

James

Hi,

I was trying to upload my website (using FP) after doing a major update on
it, the upload was going fine until I got to a page in my site called '
step_ladders.htm ' . On trying to upload this page I received an error
message saying ' Server error: Cannot open file ".step_ladders.htm.tmp" for
writing ' and my upload came to a halt, and the previous pages I uploaded
did not save (site still contains my old pages). So I am now stuck with a
site that cannot be updated!

I presume that 'step_ladders.htm.tmp' is a temporary version of
'step_ladders.htm ' but other than this I do not know! My web host seems
either not to know or un-willing to help, so any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks
James

Make sure the file name doesn't have a leading period, as indicated in the error message:

".step_ladders.htm.tmp"

If not then you need to contact your web to see if you have exceeded your web space/

The file name of the page is...........

step_ladders.htm

I have no idea where the dot has come from! It just appears in the error
message! Got a quite a bit of space left according to hosts!

Thanks anyway!

Ok, then ask the host to run Server Health Check on the extensions for your account and check the
space of n the server for temp files.

FP adds the leading dot and trailing .tmp when uploading to the server. The
leading dot hides the file when using Unix servers.
The error message usually occurs when there is insufficient space on the
server to copy the file. Insufficient space means either the hard disc on
the server is full, or your allocation of the space is full..
