server error file permissions

While attempting to update my web page I ran into this error. It appears
everytime I want to save my work.

Server error: The server extensions were unable to access the file
"C:\Documents and Settings\lisa ruskin\My Documents\My
Webs\myweb4\_vti_pvt\service.lck". Please check the file permissions.

I have dug all through the help files & haven't a clue.

Thanks in advance.

With FP closed, use Windows Explorer to locate the file and then delete it. FP will recreate it.

That worked to a certain extent. Now it says .....\_vti_pvt_\service.cnf -
and there is no such file to erase.

But at least removing the first one, I am now able to save most of my work.
But I still cannot modify web settings???

How did this web / site get onto this specific PC?

First off - Thanks for the help.

I made the web site from scratch.

I haven't updated it or opened the file since last October. Today was the
first time in that many months to use Front Page. I have never had this
issue before. I was wondering if something corrupted it.

I ran a virus scan & found none....

Thanks again for taking the time to address this. Lisa

Now I am getting the same thing except: _vti_pvt\.structure.cnf.tmp - I
delete this file, reopen FrontPage & it happens all over again. The file
keeps coming back? I'm at a lose of what to do. I tried to copy the web
page & use another computer, but obviously these settings are inbedded in
this file as I get the same errors...

<really scratching head>

Try this, copy the web to another folder on your HD, then open this folder in Windows Explorer or My
Computer, delete ALL _vti folders from all folder under this web (folder). Now open the folder in FP
and let FP make is a web. If you have used theme/shared border/FP Navigation you may have to re do
them. However from this point on, use this location for working on your web.

When you get ready to publish, you want to select to allow FP overwrite all content on the remote
server.

If the live/remote server has the FP extensions, it might be a better idea to open the live/remote
site directly in FP and publish it back to a folder on your HD, then make any changes, etc and
publish it back to the live/remote server. From here on you would work on this copy (folder).
