Server 2003 networking issue

Sorry folks but I cant find the newsgroup for server 2003. Anyways, I have
two 2003 servers. One is a DC and the other is a stand-alone in WORKGROUP. It
is used as a VPN server for others to access resources in a share. I just
recently reinstalled this VPN server and reset it up as the VPN server. Now,
every computer (all XP clients) can access it with a general account and
password but my 2003 DC cannot. I get prompted for the account and password
when I type \\server in the run box. But I get an error stating that the
\\server is inaccessible and I might not have permissions. But again all the
XP clients in the same subnet have access using the generic username and
password. I restarted both machines and purged some name caches. Any
suggestions?

Your DC will present to the VPN server whatever "credentials" (username/password)
you used to log on to that DC with. So you need a local account on the VPN
workgrouup server that matches those credentials, or an enabled "guest"
account with no password, for you to auto-authenticate.

Otherwise you can map a drive first using an explicit username/password
that matches a local one on the VPN workgroup standalone. Once you have
done that, the credentials are established and you can browse or
access other resources without issue.
