Hi everybody,

I have 2 Windows 2000 Servers, File
Servers, SP4 and hotfixes. Randomly ( once, twice per
week ) the servers stop working , I mean users loose
their mappings and connections. Sometimes I can enter the
servers and I have to shut them down. In other cases I
can´t access the console and the only thing to do is to
turn them off and on. Then everything is OK. Some ideas
or clues about this behaviour? Thanks !!!!!!!

This could be anything - from faulty drivers, faulty hardware and more. If I
were you I would do the following things:

* Consult the event logs to find potential warnings, error messages from
drivers, services etc. (you may want to install eventsentry light from
http://www.eventsentry.com)
* Turn off all unnecessary services
* Run chkdsk on the machines, though it's unlikely that both servers have
problems in their file systems
* Identify all 3rd party drivers (raid controllers, network drivers etc.)
and see if you have the latest version installed
* Consider setting up performance monitor to monitor memory usage etc.

I hope this gives you a starting point ...
