Current computer:

Compaq Presario 700z

Current Issue:

No sound coming from the computer

Side issue maybe in effect with previous:

Serious Error has occured on restart. Reads as follows;

BCCode : 50 BCP1 : E1A7C000 BCP2 : 00000001 BCP3 : 805591FE
BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 768_1

I have followed instructions on a previous thread and found that the
person just "reformatted" the computer and solved the problem. In
my opinion that is not solving the problem, that is only finding a way
around. I wont be taking that step in this situation though, I want
to know how to fix the problem so that if it comes across me again I
wont be so boggled.

So any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am not the owner of
this laptop it is a coworkers and he does not have only a "Windows"
installation disk, just the factory restore C.D.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

This solution appears to work for the sound issue, but not the "serious
error". Anyone help with that? That is, not having to re-format the hard
drive?

This seems to solve the sound problem, but not the "serious problem." Any
suggestions on how to recover without re-formatting?
