Serial ata hardrive - can't load xp pro

I bought a new WD-800JD hard drive as a replacement. I'm trying to load XP
Pro w/SP2 on it. XP asks for info on the HD, I've tried every driver I could
downlaod from WD, XP, ASUS. Nothing works. I'm using an ASUS P4S8X mother bd
which has SATA on board. I have updated the bios. I have loaded Linux on it
with no problem so I know the MB and HD are working, so is it a XP problem?

Read the mobo manual, it will tell you whether you have to install sata/raid
drivers from floppy early in the winxp installation, using the F6 (install
third party drivers) switch.

Some ASUS boards, in particular, *don't* need SATA drivers loaded, but *do*
need a specific BIOS setting if both SATA and PATA are used, as is usually
the case (the optical drive goes on PATA).

So yes, check the manual for this.
