Mobo m2n32-sli
Hallo to everybody.
I'm stacked for now.
I'm going to assembly a pc with a mobo asus m2n32-sli deluxe, 2 hd
sata just configured in raid1; and I would like to partion the volume
and install wxp pro.

To get here I have been following the steps:

1) from setup bios -> main -> sata1 -> enabled
sata2 -> enabled

2) again from setup bios -> advanced -> serial ata config -> nvidia
raid ->
enabled;

3 )from setup raid config (press F10 while post is running))
raid mode -> select mirroring
clean disk data
create raid volume

4) creation of nvidia 32-bit raid floppy driver from asus system
cd-rom

At this point I started the xp installation cd:
I am asked to format the volume C: . (the only possible);
I choose ntfs format.
Going ahead installations files are loaded;
when next boot starts I push F6 to install raid nvidia drivers;
the operation is performed correctly.
going further are shown the available partitions to continue the xp
installation:

- disc scsi 0, id0, bus 0 on atapi.mbr
c: partition1 ntfs 131.072M
- disc scsi 0, id1, bus 0 on nvidia.mbr
space not partitioned 152.626M

How would you read that?
Actually before installing XP I would like to partition the raid
volume to prepare it for successives installations.
But seems to me that the xp installation disc allows to partition and
format only unpartioned spaces.
But the unpartitioned space on the unit Id1 of the raid has to be
managed (I think) by the unit Id0; therefore I need to know haw to
partition the first unit.
I hope to have been clear... hard stuff!
Thanks for reply

You "missed" the F6 step at the "first" boot. You need to add the
RAID drivers before letting the install process create / format the C:
drive. This now told the system to create a "single" drive volume
and broke the RAID settings. You should restart the set up

'First boot' may be a little missunderstood
Boot from winxp cd, at the begging of the installation there is a notice to
key F6 to install third party drivers, if you miss this you have to start
over.
The raid controler drivers have to be installed during the installation, and
before you get any option to select a drive

Great!
I see the mistake... with your eyes! ;-)
I'll let you know...

Better recheck youre owners manual,BIOS settings for RAID rarely would
include chking SATA 1 or 2,that setting usually stands for non-RAID,but
SATA use.Also,set youre boot priority for RAID or cdrom till xp is
running.Also,
RAID set-up is usually after youve exited the BIOS,plus you should have
selected
size of data for the hds..Also,one can partition or delete before xp is
running.
Boot to xp cd,after F6,at xp boot menu,press the r key,for recovery
console,w/o
xp installed you'll recieve some negative type,disreguard and simply type:
DiskPart In DiskPart,delete or add partition(s),press ESC key when
thru.Also,
the SATA hd mfg has a MS-DOS utility you can boot to,it usually allows
several
options..

Thanks to all of you for support.

I restarted the installation activating through F6 the raid driver
uploading and, this time, the partition choise table was showing only
one partition on the full unit C:.

Before launching the installation, at the boot, I had a look at the
asus raid utility, wich is accessible by pressing F10:
in the array list was shown:
boot -> yes
status -> healthy
vendor -> nvidia
array -> mirror 149.04 Gb

and as array details:

raid mode -> mirroring
striping width -> 1
striping block -> 64 k

port 3.0 / index0 / disk wdc wd1600avjs-63swa0 / capacity 149 gb
port 3.1 / index1 / disk wdc wd1600avjs-63swa0 / capacity 149 gb

It looks like the raid configuration is well established

But I have a task unrealised: the partitioning of the disk prior to
the system installation.
Xp allows partitioning only on unpartitioned space.

Can you suggest how to proceed?
Cheers
