Cannot Boot Sata Drive

G

Grey

Using XP Pro and Asus M2N4-SLi mobo.

I have a 500GB Sata II HD and cannot get it to boot. I have the one HD
drive, insert CD, press F6 to load necessary drivers from floppy (latest
version from Asus), create NTFS partition, copy files and restart. Drive
appears in Bios, but "Error cannot find operating system".

I have an old IDE drive, plug that in, boot and the Sata drive is there with
everything ready.

Any ideas why I cannot get this to boot?

Hard drive manufacturers usually provide a CD with the drive that is used to
setup/partition/format the drive. Did you not get one? Also, these programs
can be downloaded from their web site if necessary.

Some motherboards want special settings to allow booting from SATA drives.
Check the manual.
