I am the only user on my computer, guest access is turned off but everytime
I try to open a program I get the secondary logon prompt. This just started
happening today. How do I stop this?

I've tried your reg fix, but it didn't seem to work. I've tried stopping "run as" through the admin services, to no avail, and I've even tried disabling it via another reg edit---the manual reg edit succeeded in stopping it from popping up, but I still had no "open" command or option when attemping to execute a file or shortcut. Is there another registry line that I can edit to restore the general open command?

Rob,

The original fix I pointed you to should have resolved this issue. If you've recently removed a virus from your system, you may want to go back to my site, Win XP Fixes, File Association Fixes and download the EXE and LNK File Association fixes.

I appreciate the suggestion/help; however, I believe I have solved the problem (so far so clear anyway). I looked at my work computer's registry and found a key entry missing from mine (home computer). In HKey_Classes_ROOT/exefile/shell/, there should be /open/ and /open/command/ entry & folder that somehow got deleted when I installed the norton 04 software. So I created the entries and everything is running like normal. And I am DEFINATELY not reinstalling the norton software. Buggy as hell this year.
