Sending Web Forms

Before Vista and Windows Mail I used Outlook Express. I belong to a group
that needs to send emails via a web form located
here:http://host.activeworlds.com/awhelp/gksr/capgksr.htm

This form has NOT changed in years and " use to" send in Outlook Express
"silently" meaning it would pop up a few windows telling you it was being
sent via your email program and ask permission etc. You click ok & ok a few
times then it would send and you would see the progress window of it sending
without actually OPENING the mail program.

Now however rather than just sending, it opens Windows Mail with the
Addresses and Subject filled in but no text in the body of mail.

I am trying to get it to send automatically like Outlook Express use to
WITHOUT Opening the program itself.

I have the appropriate Email program selected under Internet Options -
Programs - Email.

Can anyone tell me what needs to be changed to go back to the way it use to
work in OE ?

To Top it off ... Even OE no no longer just sends...it too opens up and
waits for user imput.

Thanks in advance for all your help

Cheers

I tried that form and got the same result you did.
The Send Shift Report button appears to send a simple MailTo command,
which is only capable of pre-filling the email address and Subject fields.
You have confirmed that the same thing happens in OE now, so it looks
like someone changed the type of form on that website.

I tried it and it worked. I think what is different is that you have to put
OE into the Internet zone under Tools | Options | Security. I got prompted
by UAC and then by OE in that a program was trying to send mail, but it
seems to have worked otherwise. So try putting OE into the Internet zone
and see if it works again for you.

Hey Steve
I think you may be on to something here. As I said in my previous post, This
form has not changed in years so it HAS to be a setting in IE or as you say
under the security aspect thereof. I will speak to the people that the form
was sent to and confirm that you did indeed send a successful email.

However, Could you please explain in a bit more detail How / Where I change
that setting?
When you say "try putting OE into the Internet zone
and see if it works again for you." I don't see where you can add a Program
itself rather than a URL.

Also there may be some that use Outlook Express, Outlook, and other email
programs such as Incredimail and these also will need to be set for those
people.

Steve,
Your mail did in fact go through. I had the recipient FW it to me. Pasted
below is how it comes through on their end. This proves that the form is NOT
the problem.

* smiles & sticks tounge out @ Gary. :)~

I await further instructions on what settings you have that are different.

I thought it worked okay. The clients have to go to Tools | Options |
Security in OE / WinMail and then choose Internet Zone instead of Restricted
Zone. Some will decry that that makes you computer less safe, but I run
both OE and WinMail on all my machines with it in the Internet zone and have
never had any trouble doing so. The real security threat is people opening
up attachments and getting infected that way.

The reason for doing this is that the form requires scripting of the message
and scripting is blocked when OE / WinMail is in the Restricted zone (which
is the default setting).

Its not my website. Their question was why wasn't it working, and I
explained why it wasn't working.

You can't make assumptions about how the client is set up.
To avoid this problem, the script should run on the server side
rather than on the client side. Years ago when I was into web hosting,
we used FormMail, see http://www.scriptarchive.com/formmail.html
