sending "smaller photos" via email

I am unable to send photos via windows photo gallery. The following error
message occurs:

The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

I use an earthlink account which I believe uses a POP3 incoming and SMTP
outgoing server. I have entered this info into the properties menu. I am
not set-up properly and I need help.

Great info. Thanks for the link. I was wrong on both the POP and SMTP names
for earthlink. I was able to set-up Windows mail and send the photos. BUT,
my next question is:

All of my emails from the earthlink account are going into Windows mail.
When I go to earthlink webmail and sign into my account, there are no
messages. This means, when I am in a remote site, using a different
computer, I do not have access to email messages. Can Windows mail be set up
using the earthlink account but I can still have access to these emails in my
earthlink account?

Start Windows Mail. Click on Tools, then Accounts, then your Earthlink
account, then Properties, then Advanced. If there is no checkmark in
the box before Leave a copy of messages on server, click on this box,
then Apply. It's a good idea to also select one of the methods of
eventually removing the messages from the server, to prevent it from
having so many of your messages at once that it refuses to accept any
more. Click on Apply, then OK, then Close. You should now have
remote access to messages that arrive after this change, and haven't
been removed yet.

By default, a POP email program like Windows Mail will delete messages
from the server after successfully downloading them. This hails back to the
days when server mailbox storage space was limited. To change that default:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Advanced,
enable "Leave a copy of messages on server." Depending on how much
storage space EarthLink allows, you may want to select one or both
of the two associated 'remove' options.
