I want to send PowerPoint slides to MS Word in black and white. In a
previous version of PowerPoint if you were viewing the slide in black and
white and sent them to Word they would be black and white in Word. That is
no longer the case in 2003. I can change the slides to BW in Word but then
they are black background white text instead of white background black text.

Yes, this functionality was removed in PPT 2002 and still isn't available in
2003.

The only thing I know to tell you is to find a system with PPT 2000 or 97 on
it and do the Send to Word from there.

I struggle with this daily at my office, and that's the only solution I've
found.

If you install 2000 or 97 alongside 2003, make sure you choose Paste Link
when you do the Send to Word, or you'll end up with color images in the Word
document. You can do Edit/Links/Break Links in Word, but you'll need to
Paste Link to get the B/W images in the first place.

See if this add-in will solve the problem. It has a gray-scale option
